Beautiful Hands of Jesus

As we look towards Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, the new song we are learning for the Lord’s Supper, “Beautiful Hands,” gently draws our attention to one simple, powerful image—the hands of Jesus.

“Beautiful hands that broke the bread, cared for the sick, and raised the dead…”

Throughout the Gospels, we see the hands of Christ constantly at work.

They were never distant or withdrawn.

They touched the untouchable, lifted the broken, and brought life where there was none.

Scripture reminds us,

“And Jesus went about… healing all manner of sickness” (Matthew 4:23).

His hands were full of compassion, comfort, and power.

But the same hands that healed… were also pierced.

“Beautiful hands pleading for me, bound to a cross that I might go free… paying the price that justice demands, torn by the nails…”

Good Friday brings us face to face with the cost of our redemption.

Jesus willingly stretched out His hands and allowed them to be nailed to a cross.

As Isaiah prophesied,

“He was wounded for our transgressions… and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

And Peter echoes this truth: “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24).

Those hands bore the weight of our sin so that we could be set free.

And yet,

The story does not end at the cross.

“Beautiful hands stretched out to you, ready to cleanse and make life new…”

On Resurrection Sunday, we celebrate that those pierced hands are living hands.

When Jesus rose again, He showed His disciples the scars—proof of both

  • His sacrifice and
  • His victory.

“Behold my hands… that it is I myself” (Luke 24:39).

Today, those same hands are still reaching—offering forgiveness, new life, and hope.

As we prepare our hearts this week, may we take time to reflect on the hands of Jesus—

  • strong and kind,
  • broken and bleeding,
  • risen and reaching.

Beautiful hands… given for you.

Come join us!
